Timely’s Chemically Passivated electro-galvanized frames are produced by an uniquely special process which adds a chemical seal over the zinc substrate. It enhances both its rust inhibiting characteristics and creates a surface suited for field painting. Proper surface preparation prior to painting will insure a quality finish with good adhesion. The surface must be completely dry and free of all contaminants such as oil, dust, dirt, etc.

1. Using just a few drops of a common dish washing detergent diluted in a container of water, clean the frame. (Palmolive, Ivory, TSP, Simple Green, etc.) 2. With a damp cloth, remove any soapy residue immediately. 3. Dry the frame and paint as soon as possible. WARNING: Do not use a solvent to clean the frames. |

*To help support a clean environment, we suggest an acrylic water based paint be used.
If it is found that paint being used lacks adhesion then a prime coat is required prior to painting. DTM (Direct to Metal) primer recommended. Although acrylic water based paints are dry to the touch in an hour or so, they usually require between 10 to 14 days before they are fully cured. This can be tested by pressing the edge of your fingernail against the paint. If an impression is left then the paint is not yet fully cured. Treat galvanizing as you would any prime coat. This means that if left unpainted for an extended period of time it loses its ability to bond to the top coat. If kept clean, dry and free from a corrosive environment, galvanized surfaces will maintain optimal bonding properties for up to 6 to 8 months. If you have a bonding problem caused by leaving the galvanized surface unpainted for longer than recommended, IT CAN USUALLY BE CURED BY USING ScotchBrite (medium) TO CLEAN FRAME PRIOR TO PAINTING.
